Job description

Key Responsibilities

  • Implement an occupational health surveillance programme in the business unit (BU)/division/health centre according to occupational risk exposure profile (OREP).
  • Prepare and coordinate cases for proposed medical boarding, incapacity, sick leave management, disability and assessments in consultation with the Eskom occupational health medicine practitioner(OHMP).
  • Monitor and refer acute and chronic cases to the relevant health and wellness function inside or outside Eskom.
  • Provide an advisory, consultative and specialist service to all stakeholders.
  • Capture and record data of all activities on Systems, Applications and Products (SAP) Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS).

Knowledge 

  • Relevant labour and health legislation e.g., Occupational Health & Safety Act, 85 of 1993.
  • Understanding the health care system and the operational unit environment (business unit where clinic is based) in which service is provided (e.g., health care delivery models in the province).
  • Good understanding of clients/customers in the business unit.
  • Advance practical knowledge of primary health care.
  • Good understanding of Eskom policies, procedures, Eskom Stated Benefits, Eskom Pension and Provident Fund (EPPF), employment equity classification (persons with disabilities) and social claims Compensation for Occupational Injuries and Diseases Act (COIDA).
  • Good understanding of Public Finance Management Act (PFMA).
  • Advance knowledge of Systems, Applications, and Products (SAP) Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS).
  • Lifestyle management including human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) /acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS) and Tuberculosis (TB) in the workplace.
  • Management of sickness, absenteeism, and medically incapacitated employees.
  • Management of wellness service provider contracts, including eligibility requirements,
  • performance, standards, budget, limitations, scope of service, strength, and weakness of theservice provider.
  • Good understanding on how medical aid scheme-chronic diseases management programmes function.

Minimum requirements

Qualification(s): 

  • Bachelor of Nursing at NQF8 with 480 credits plus Postgraduate qualification in Occupational Health at NQF8 with 120 credits plus Dispensing Licensing Certificate

Professional Registration: 

  • Professional Registration Body: South African Nursing Council (SANC) 

Related Minimum Experience: 

  • 4 years of Occupational health and primary health care and managerial experience
